The summer of 2008 was Droopy’s “Long Hot Summer”: a time period wherein he received more challenges as a host than ever before. In ways ranging from subtle to straight-up, the young charges of this veteran’s venue were beginning to take Droopy’s kindness for weakness, using the very freedom of expression which Droopy and Dwayne had fought for years to provide as an invitation to attack amidst their ambition for position and reputation. The saidsame summer saw the release of Christopher Nolan’s epic film The Dark Knight, in which the character Harvey Dent (ironically before himself transfiguring into the psychotic Two-Face) memorably remarked: “You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Reflecting on this frustrating dichotomy and what it meant for his position in the artistic world, Droopy fired back with The Bully: The Aww-Dacity of Broke, suggested by some to be his best overall album.
